Chloe had twins sometime early this am, she had them up and drinking by 6:30 am when we got out there this am. She did a good job as a first time mom keeping them contained in amongst all the other lambs in the barn. She is now in a bonding pen with them till they are stonger.
Daisy started labor around 8 pm tonight. We went out to feed them their nightly grain and she had the water bag out, not really indicating any other forms of labor since she was the first to the grain trough. So we seperated her and by 11 pm she had them out. Beautifully colored girls too.
It was a trying day today when I had to take two ewes in for a checkup. Maria is having issues with a hard udder, I was not sure of the cause and her babies seemed so hungry. I also noticed she has 2 extra teats, smaller and in the front, so was not sure if that was an issue.
The vet checked her out, temperature normal, but yes udder very hard. She ultrasounded the udder and found a lot of density to it, not fluid, and no milk. So we let her stand without her babies for an hour to get some milk in there and once we ultrasounded again the udder anatomy looked ok, to the two main teats, milk was now in there so she is producing some. So we treated her for edema, will do compresses and medication to take the edema down, and hopefully she will soften up and be able to feed her babies again. The second ewe was Kole, she has been off since 5 days before lambing, very lethargic and just off. Then 3 days ago I saw a rapid decline in her eating with her not touching any food at all yesterday. So the vet checked her out, blood sample taken, and an elevated temperature. Also severe anemia. The vet says the amemia is regenerative, so she is still building red blood cells just not keeping up with whatever is causing her to bleed, so the diagnosis is uterine infection with anemia. So she is on new cells to build up her red blood cells again, and antibiotics to get rid of the infection. Hopefully that will perk her up and she can start eating again. We are pulling her babies to take that stress of nursing away from her, so more bottle babies makes the kids happy. :) Just hoping that Kole pulls through for us. Jill gave us a set of twins around supper time tonight. 1 boy and 1 girl. The girl is tall and lanky, chocolate in color, and weighing in at 8.2 lbs, and named Lee. The boy is white with lots of highlights, weighing in at 9 lbs and named Leo.
Molly has been having me watch her for a week now, thinking any day she would lamb, she was just so wide and uncomfortable. I figured last night she was starting labour so did my check early at 1 am and sure enough they were all out. 3 boys!
Keith was the smallest at 8.8 lbs, then Kane at 10.2 lbs and finally Kaleb at 12 lbs. Tika our registered ewe had twins today. Beautiful big twins. The girls got home from school just in time for her to have the first, we moved her into the barn since the wind was so bad, and they got to watch her have the second, a huge boy.
All were moved into a lambing pen so they could strengthen up and bond. Jasmine and Jack are their names, we will be keeping them both on as replacements, so very exciting for us. Was out an about today so figured I would get some updated pictures.
Minnie had twin ewe lambs this am, around 1:30am. I went out at 2 am for the check and she had already had them, one was up drinking the other just getting started. I moved her into her lambing pen to bond with her girls. Ivy and Isabella. She is doing very well for a first time mom.
Maria gave us twin boys this am, around 2:30 am. It was an interesting evening check and I am thankful it all went well. I went out at 3 am to do the check and Wilma was feeding a little black ram lamb, she had not cleaned yet so figured maybe another could be in there, so I put her in the lambing pen and watched. She cleaned ok and so figured just a single. I checked around the barn at everyone else and nobody else lambing, and all moms with lambs seemed ok. So into the house I come. At the 6:30 chore time I go out to check on everyone and there I find another larger ram lamb????? Nobody else had lambed so must have been Maria's as well. Since he was not with her for 3 hours he was very hungry, and she was not certain he was her's, so she was tied and he got some food into him. After one day they are a happy family now and doing good.
Jewel lambed early this am, around 12:30 am. We were away at a concert and come home to find her with one little black ewe lamb (Gail) and her other little white ewe lamb (Gracie) had wondered out of the pen an into the bale yard. We rounded them all up (thankfully little Gracie was ok) and put them in the lambing pen to bond.
